Those comments are everywhere, it seems, these days. "Everybody's getting something for nothing, why can't I get mine?" I don't understand that attitude, because, although I've met people who need welfare, and although I'm collecting SSDI, and although I've worked with some disadvantaged communities, I've never met anybody who got what they were getting for 'nothing.' Not once.

Being poor takes all of your privacy away, too. If there is anything about you to be known then chances are it is going to need to be put in embarrassing detail on some form w/ your pint of blood and pound of flesh (if you are on WIC, part of that is literal). It angers me the way people think it is so easy to be poor, or even a step above (that place where you are too poor to get by unassisted but too well off for assistance WHEEEEE!).

Good for you!! It's so great that you stood up to that insensitive person.

I'm a great believer in letting things out, it's better to get into trouble with people wh get offended than to let it build up inside you...
